How to Get Over Post-Holiday Overindulging Guilt

Imagine this- Christmas is over and now it’s time to get back to the real world. You’re up early in the morning to get ready for work. Bleary eyed you pull out your favorite suit and start putting it on. Suddenly you are jerked awake as you realize that your trusty pair of pants is refusing to button up at your waist. You sink on your bed in horror, miserably imagining a future with yourself in sweatpants for as long as you live.

But that doesn’t undermine the feeling of dread that hits us after the festivities of the holiday’s end, which makes us realize that we really shouldn’t have gotten into a contest with our siblings on who can eat the most Christmas cookies without throwing up.

There is no harm in indulging yourself a little around the holidays. We all deserve to let our hair down and relax with our loved ones. However a little wisdom never goes amiss, and during holiday season, the wisest thing you can do is weigh your actions against a predictable consequence (like pigging out on grandma’s Christmas cake will make you add on a few pounds).

There are a few easy preventive measures that you can take before you go to big Christmas dinners and parties where you are likely to overindulge.

First, you have to know your limits. Exercising self-control amidst festivities is admittedly difficult, but try to avoid the ‘one too many’ scenario by picturing the one person we all know that always gets too drunk and makes a spectacle at every party. Confine yourself to a few drinks by drinking them slowly sip by sip. Better yet, volunteer yourself as designated driver to avoid calorie intake through excessive alcohol consumption.

Don’tarrive hungry at dinners. Most people tend to avoid eating the entire day so that they can eat the delicious food at holiday dinners. By having a proper breakfast and lunch, you can avoid pigging out on carbs and sweets at dinner parties.

Women often go to spas prior to holidays to get prepared for the festivities of the season.
